- Involved in development of medical information systems for general practice and hospitals
- Specified and developed a clinical information system for use in General Practice and hospitals.
- The system is was widely used in the UK for many years and evolved into a system still in current use.
- Responsible for interfacing work between this clinical information system and several other systems including: patient administration systems, patient held smart cards and a commercial data collection system.
- Redeveloped a clinical questionnaire system (Mickie) for use with Abies CIS including design, development and implementation of a special purpose language for interrogating and manipulating information in the clinical database (CNL).
- Designed and developed interfaces from Abies CIS (hospital and GP systems) to patient held smart card system (Exeter Care Card).
- Specified and developed a clinical information system for use in General Practice and hospitals.
1982-1985: Partner in a busy rural General Practice
- Practised in a busy rural three man practice
- Acted as deputy police surgeon for over three years
- Used an early GP computer systems including a computerised medical record system
- Studied various issues related to the use of information technology and coding systems in health care and carried out part-time work on developments in this field
